False Killer Whales: Deep Ocean Predators with Unique Features
These whales have a very large distribution and tend to prefer deep ocean waters, making it rarer to spot them near the coast. Despite its name, the comparison to the Killer Whale mainly comes from its powerful, cone-shaped teeth rather than its overall appearance, which is quite different. Distinctive traits of the False Killer Whale include a slim, curved dorsal fin and a noticeable bulge along the front edge of each flipper. They are always in packs and are very efficient predators!
Even though they are not particularly threatened with extinction, they have sadly been and still are targets of hunting, especially off the shore of Japan.
