Great White Sharks in Australia: Size, Habitat & Conservation Status
Once in a while, we get the chance to spot these massive sharks on our trips, and when I say massive, I mean it, the largest recorded white shark measured an impressive 7 meters in length and weighed 3,200 kg . White sharks are primarily found along the southern coast and central Queensland, extending to North West Cape in Western Australia. They are recognised as a vulnerable species across various Australian states, including New South Wales, and in multiple countries worldwide. According to the CSIRO, the estimated population of white sharks in Eastern Australasia stands at about 5,460, with possible figures ranging from 2,909 to 12,802. The adult population of white sharks is roughly estimated at 750 individuals, with a range between 470 and 1,030 adults.
